IT IS TIME

Time to work on this quilt again. No amount of injections or splinting will make these hands work better or faster. My plan….if you want to call it a plan is to remove the back, replace the fluffy layer and repair the blocks plus add a layer of support for the very old fabric with embroidery backing.

While this all sounds easy enough it’s going to take some time as my hands, wrist and thumbs just won’t work without pain. That’s ok because the project is worth it.

This quilt was my mother’s. Before that it was made by her mom, my grandmother. There is a feeling of hope of feeling this grandmother again if only be stitching over where she once stitched. Is this where I grew into sewing? My pride beams once I finish any project but some are just so much better than others, especially since in between breaking my wrist and the 3 surgeries to fix it I never really got the full use of that hand back. I still hope….. I can settle for what I have in use by pretending the lupus and RA are imaginary. Not real. Not a reason to hold me back from finishing revamping this quilt. ❤️

The fact is I discovered a stash of new but vintage themed fabric is helping the design process. Do I make the blocks before the quilt is like did the egg or chicken come first? We will find out soon enough? Ready Set sew.
